…. but it’s too late now, that ship has sailed a long time ago … I’m not as young as I used to be, I have responsibilities and obligations, I have a family to take care of and besides, you know what they say, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” … alas it has sailed!
or has it?
Sounds very much like your lizard brain is acting up again. Who says you’re too old to follow your dreams? Who said you should settle for what life hands you? Who said “you can’t” or “it’s too late”? Ironically, YOU DID! You are continuously sabotaging your own dreams and setting them out to fail before they even begin.
During my Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Consulting in GGSB, I got to know Pekka, a remarkable man in his late 50s, who, after 28 years out of university, decided to refresh his education and learn the new tools to start his own consulting business.
If that were you in Pekka’s shoes, you probably would have said, “nah, I’m too old now … besides, I’ll be surrounded by people that are my children’s age in class, it’s just too embarrassing!”
Pekka decided to take control of his destiny, he grabbed his compass and put on his captain’s hat and steered his ship towards his dream! I’m certain that sea is rough at times, and storms can shake his very core, but he stayed his course and kept his eyes on target at all times …
This is only one example, but I could go on forever with people who were inspired to live out their dreams and change their destiny … If you have a dream my dear reader, pursue it with all you heart, mind, and soul … the way to get there might be tough, but it’s worth it; trust me, I’m on that road, and I tell you the journey is wonderful … most importantly, don’t give up!

I am in full agreement! I think there is no limit to the extent we rediscover ourselves. We meet new people, we travel to a new country, we immerse into a new culture and all these experiences contribute towards showing new facets of life outside and also within us… Believing in oneself is key to following new dreams, new goals.
You’re absolutely right Eugene … self discovery is the only way to self mastery! and that has no expiry date!
PS. Hope you enjoyed the personal branding session! Would love to hear your feedback if you have the time!
The session we had I think was way too short! The discussion could have gone on for much longer. I think out of all the personal development activities that we were recommended, I really got most practical benefit from your insights and interactive discussions. I tend to appreciate imagery in my thinking and one of the images that you used and that struck me and is now guiding my own thinking is your reference to the “ramp” in one’s career to be used as a launch pad rather than confining oneself to a cubicle and trying to go up the corporate ladder. I think this relates very well also to what you mention about one being under-appreciated at work especially in the corporate world… Ever since I had the privilege to listen to you and to discover the importance of Personal Branding, I have actually had the great opportunity to begin collaborating on an entrepreneurial project with much more experienced gentlemen than me. And they are setting up this organization with an attempt I see as wanting to leave a legacy, perhaps not immediately through their own name, but through the organization. So this perhaps also fits in with your latest post about not allowing one to sabotage one’s dreams in thinking its too late… There is risk in this project, but believing in one’s dream and how it ties in with the reality can help overcome the challenges… So I would say that your session on personal branding has had a great resonance on me and I am trying to live it through my life… Its not always easy and sometimes some people may find it weird, but I think personally I always try to find meaning in what I do and I am always hoping that it is for the better even though it may not seem so at first sight…. I am looking forward to reading more about your insights John! Thank you so much!
